The Baltimore Sun recently published Venroy July’s article, “Maryland dropped the ball on Opportunity Zone tax incentives,” discussing the potential of the legislation and his prior efforts which he opines should be revisited, to maximize on the potential to maximize on the potential of the legislation to fund the development of underdeveloped communities and other funding priorities of the State. Venroy states, “Recognizing both the potential and the limitations of the law, I proposed legislation to democratize the law by providing a tax benefit at the state level to incentivize investors who did not have the requisite capital gains to benefit from the federal legislation but had disposable income that could have been used to invest in these blighted and often overlooked communities.” To read more, click here.
