Latest News. The Office of the U.S. Trade Representative announced another round of tariff exclusions for Chinese products from the third tranche of Section 301 tariffs, which went into effect on September 24, 2018, on approximately $200 billion worth of imports from China. This marked the 13th round of exclusions granted by the USTR for the third tranche of Section 301 tariffs.

The product exclusions announced in this round will apply retroactively as of September 24, 2018, the $200 billion action, and extend to August 7, 2020. Meanwhile, the government trade representatives from the U.S. and China remain in bilateral communications, according to official releases from each side. On May 7, 2020, Vice Premier Liu He, U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven T. Mnuchin, and Ambassador Robert Lighthizer participated in a conference call, discussing economic and trade issues between the two nations, including the recently concluded Phase 1 Agreement. The parties discussed the ongoing process of implementing the Phase 1 Agreement that went into effect on February 14. Both parties agreed that progress is being made on creating the governmental infrastructures necessary to make the Agreement a success. They also agreed that despite the current global health emergency, both countries fully expect to meet their obligations under the Agreement in a timely manner.
