Nolan J. Moody is an experienced trial lawyer in both state and federal court as well as before administrative panels and appeals. He is based out of the Firm’s Lansing, Michigan office. His broad commercial litigation experience includes all aspects of contract and tort litigation, healthcare fraud, employment disputes, real estate, automotive industry litigation, shareholder and family business disputes, trade secret and non-compete litigation, and domestic arbitration. Mr. Moody specializes in a wide array of complex topics involving utility litigation, including gas and electric rate disputes, distribution increase requests, and customer switching litigation. Mr. Moody also concentrates his practice in administrative law proceedings, including matters involving contested case hearings, licensing applications, and defense of regulatory violations before the Michigan Liquor Control Commission, Michigan Marijuana Regulatory Agency, and the Michigan Public Service Commission, among others.  Mr. Moody is recognized as one of Michigan’s “Rising Stars” according Super Lawyers and was also named by Best Lawyers in America® as “Ones to Watch” 2022.

Successfully represented clients in obtaining various licenses before the Michigan Liquor Control Commission. 

Successfully defended clients against allegations of regulatory violations before the Michigan Marijuana Regulatory Agency. 

Successfully represented multiple clients, including gas and electric suppliers and other energy providers, across a wide array of complex topics before the Michigan Public Service Commission. Representation has included matters involving gas and electric rate disputes, power supply and gas cost recovery, distribution increase requests, and other matters involving contested case hearings.

Successfully obtained dismissal in federal court on a claim asserted under ERISA, regarding an issue of first impression throughout the country.

Successfully assisted in the defense of a client in a multi-day jury trial in a case involving allegations of lost profits, and ultimately obtained a jury verdict against the plaintiff and in favor of the client.

Successfully obtained judgment for liability and damages in multi-week federal jury trial regarding prisoner’s rights matter where client was denied his First Amendment Rights by prison officers.

Successfully represented numerous individuals in maintaining/extending personal protection orders against domestic abusers.

Successfully represented individuals in license appeal to the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs.

Member of litigation team that successfully represented Federal-Mogul Corporation in patent infringement action before the International Trade Commission.
