Kester So, a member in the Lansing office of Dickinson Wright, was recently elected to the Board of Directors of the American College of Bond Counsel at the American College of Bond Counsel’s annual meeting held in October in Chicago.
Mr. So specializes in municipal finance, where he has served as bond counsel or underwriter’s counsel on a wide variety of bond issues, including but not limited to, bonds for health care, public power, higher education, transportation, unemployment insurance, tax increment financing, environmental, school bond loan fund, State and local building authorities, airports, water and sewer, solid waste disposal, tobacco securitizations, economic development bonds, and many others. Mr. So is a member of the State Bar of Michigan and serves on the Council of the Government Law Section (having served twice as Chairperson) and is a member of the National Association of Bond Lawyers. He was also appointed by separate Governors to the Council on Labor and Economic Growth and its successor, the Talent Investment Board and serves as the firm’s Trustee to, and past President of, the U. S. Law Firm Group, comprised of 17 large law firms located throughout the United States and Canada. Mr. So is listed in the most recent edition of Best Lawyers in four categories—public finance law, municipal law, utility law and energy law and a Super Lawyer. He received his A.B. with high distinction from the University of Michigan and his J.D. from the University of California College of the Law, San Francisco.
Mr. So was one of 11 lawyers nationwide elected in 2014 as a Fellow of the American College of Bond Counsel—a highly select group of distinguished and experienced bond counsel representing every state in the union for the purpose of promoting the high standards of professional and ethical responsibility in the practice of municipal finance. Membership is by invitation only—and the nominee must have demonstrated a career as a distinguished municipal finance practitioner over a substantial period of time.
