Jack is a partner in the Business Law Group of Dickinson Wright LLP in Toronto.
Jack acts as external general counsel to a number of entrepreneurial, owner-managed companies in various industries to assist them with all of their corporate/commercial, M&A, litigation and real estate matters.
Jack’s practice is focused primarily on corporate transactions including mergers, acquisitions, divestitures and reorganizations. In addition to assisting Canadian clients, Jack frequently works with both in-house and U.S. counsel in cross-border transactions.
A growing number of Jack’s recent transactions have involved the acquisition or disposition of privately held businesses as part of the owners' succession planning. This trend is consistent with recent business studies that indicate greater than a majority of current Canadian business owners plan to retire within 10 years and the exit plan for a significant percentage of them is to sell their business to either a family member or a third party.
Jack often acts as a trusted advisor to owner-managers who rely upon him to assist them throughout the entire succession planning process starting with organizing an appropriate team of consultants including valuators, investment bankers and accountants and concluding with introductions to appropriate wealth management teams.
Jack also assists a number of high net worth families from China in establishing their businesses in Canada and locating additional opportunities for them through his professional network.
